The installation of twin breakers is typically the solution when an unqualified person attempts to add circuitry to an undersized or over extended panel. Many main electrical panels are not rated for twin breaker installation. Panel manufacturers list on the panel door whether the panel can accept twin breakers. Panel manufacturers also list the type of breakers that are compliant with their panel boards. Improperly installing twin breakers or breakers from another panel company can lead to overheating and panel failure. We often see this violation when making installations. The solution is to increase the size of the main electrical panel, use breakers to match the panel, and properly size the breakers to the wiring.
