Hold the Ice Please!

Lauterborn Electric Lauterborn ElectricLauterborn Electric was called to the Art Museum area of Philadelphia for a breaker that was tripping. When we got there we found much more than a bad breaker.  The pictures show what we found. The main service cable was leaking water into the panel which was compromising their 100 amp service.  Lauterborn ElectricThe water was coming from an unusual source.  Over the course of the past few storms, ice had built up on their storm drain from the roof. With the drain being frozen solid and the roof liquid melting at a faster rate, ice began to overflow the drain and engulf the main service cable. The pictures show how severe the ice had accumulated on the cable and the inside Lauterborn Electric Lauterborn Electricand outside of the meter socket.  So the lesson to be learned here is to make sure your drains don’t ice over, and if they do, keep your service cable and meter from icing over by keeping it clean of snow and removing ice that may be on or around your meter.  For all your electrical needs contact your licensed Philadelphia Electrician Lauterborn Electric.  Click Image to Enlarge.
