Hurricane Sandy and electrical problems as a result of flooding

by Lauterborn Electric on November 5th, 2012

The flooding that resulted from Hurricane Sandy has caused much damage and grief to many people in the Tri- State area. As electricians we have concerns regarding flooding and energized parts. Once the water has receded, the problem that arises is the damage to the equipment and wiring in a business or residence. From the news reports, some basements have been completely submerged with flooding compromising the electrical equipment and wiring normally rated for dry locations. Floodwater and contaminants promote corrosion and insulation damage to equipment and wires. Evaluating the damage caused by flooding by a qualified electrician is essential to keeping your business and home electrically safe.

Lauterborn Electric recommends the replacement of all items below once compromised by flooding.
