How old is the wiring in your home?

by Lauterborn Electric on October 17th, 2012

The average age of a home in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs is 55 years old. In neighborhoods like Fishtown, Port Richmond, and Northern Liberties, many of the homes are close to a century old. In some cases these older residences still has some or most of the original wiring. When renovations are done and walls and ceiling are exposed it creates a great opportunity to remove older wiring.  But sometimes unqualified electricians combine the newer wiring with the older wiring creating a potential overload on the outdated wiring. Using the older wiring which does not provide means for grounding can pose a threat to sensitive electronic equipment if an electrical spike or lighting strike was to occur. As electricians we also often see painted receptacles in older homes that can create numerous electrical issues as well. Contact your licensed electrician Lauterborn Electric for all of your electrical concerns.
