Painting your receptacles can create multiple problems

by Lauterborn Electric on October 10th, 2011

A condition we encounter constantly is electrical receptacles (outlets) that have been painted over. This is a very bad practice and should never be done.

  • A painted receptacle, once the paint hardens makes it difficult to insert a plug. The force that would be needed could potentially damage the receptacle.
  • When the paint gets inside the receptacle it can cause the plug not to make solid contact causing a possible arcing or overheating of the device.
  • Once the paint hardens, the removal of the receptacle plate can cause damage to the area where the device is installed.
